Behind the Dream of Becoming a Doctor

05/04/2024 15:09

The "Trao cơ hội - Nối ước mơ" journey has now arrived at the Boarding Ethnic Minority High School - Sìn Hồ High School, Lai Châu Province, to present a significant scholarship to the young girl named Chẻo Yêu Mẩy.

The smile always adorns the face of Chẻo Yêu Mẩy, a student of class 11A2 at Sìn Hồ High School.

Principal Vũ Hữu Kiên of Sìn Hồ School proudly shared: "Though she is an introvert, in the 10th grade, she was the only student in the entire grade to achieve an excellent student award. Mẩy is a student who puts a lot of effort into her studies. Up to this point, she has continuously achieved excellence for 11 years."

The homeroom teacher of class 11A2, Ms. Phạm Thị Yến, also shared about Mẩy's dream of becoming a doctor, a dream to care for and treat the poor people here.

But despite her cheerful appearance, there are thoughts encapsulated in six words: "cannot just think for myself."

Mẩy's family is a near-poor household with three siblings. Her mother frequently falls ill, and her father works as a laborer to support the family's living expenses, but it's barely enough. Occasionally, her father goes out to do whatever work he can find. The monthly income barely reaches around 5 million VND to feed the family. In that humble house, the most valuable possessions are perhaps a few black pigs for the Lunar New Year feast and the vegetable garden in the planting season.

"My parents work hard in the fields. When there's a drought, they have to look for water. I always aspire to study hard so that in the future, I can have a stable job to help my parents, so they don't have to work so hard anymore," Mẩy said chokingly.

Hence, Mẩy always plays the role of an elder sister at home, assisting her parents with every chore. Besides studying at school, on holidays and festive occasions, she always returns home to help her parents. Perhaps, the 8km walking from home to school cannot deter her steps, because Tả Phìn village, though impoverished, is always the place she longs for and remembers.

Chẻo Yêu Mẩy received a scholarship from Vietlott in the program "Trao cơ hội - Nối ước mơ"

Thanks to her determination and resilience to overcome hardships, Chẻo Yêu Mẩy has received a meaningful scholarship from Vietlott representatives. Hope that with the "granting opportunities," she will "connect her dreams" to become an excellent doctor.
