28/02/2022 15:52

Y Thuong's dream - a Ba Na minority student with difficult circumstances at Dak Bla Secondary School, Kon Tum City - is to become a preschool teacher. In addition to the language barrier, the difficult family situation also affected her studies.

This time, the program "Trao co hoi - Noi uoc mo" was present in Kon Tum city in Kon Tum province, a land experiencing many ups and downs of history and the residence of many different ethnic groups. Today, the city has a new look thanks to the local economic development. However, there are always touching stories inside this urban rhythm.

Dak Bla Primary and Secondary School located in Kon Tum city is the place to study and work for 33 teachers and 580 students, most of them come from ethnic minority families in the villages with the difficult circumstances. Therefore, the percentage of students attending public schools here is very low, stemming from poor living and learning conditions.

The difficulty is that, but somewhere there are still strong wills to rise up, determined not to surrender to fate. In class 8C of Dak Blà Primary School, Y Thuong is one of the best students in the class. Despite having language barriers and difficult family conditions, Y Thuong is always well aware of the importance of studying and rising in life to achieve her dreams.

Poor schoolgirl Y Thuong

Y Thuong's mother - Mrs. Y Nai is a single mother, also the main laborer in the house. Her main job is to help out in the rice season, she catches locusts and grasshoppers. Due to the precarious work, the family only relies on more than 1 million in social allowances of her and her paralyzed brother.

Y Nai shared: “Sometimes when I work as a housemaid, I get paid 4 million more than a month, but there are times when I don't have any money, but I still have to pay for school fees and other living expenses for the children. It's very hard, if you don't have money, you have to borrow money and then pay the debt later when you go to work."

But as a mother, she still tries every day to let her children go to school like other children. She is aware of how important education will affect the future of her children, so she has never wanted her children to drop out of school.

“I don't know what to do in the future, but no matter what they learn, I'll try to get there. Now, I will try to work so that my 3 children can go to school like other people's children."

Y Thuong's grandmother is more than 70 years old this year. Due to her old age and poor health, she stayed at home to take care of her paralyzed son, unable to do anything. Outside of school hours, Y Thuong also has to help her grandmother take care of him when she is sick or take advantage of part-time jobs to earn extra income.

In her old age, she had to rest and recuperate, but there were too many ups and downs in the life of that austere woman. Although she loves her children and grandchildren, but due to her old age and weak health, she can only do some jobs to help her family. Her life was miserable, so she always put her hope in her grandchildren - especially Y Thuong, who will always study to have a better life tomorrow.

In addition to class hours, Y Thuong also helps with housework or takes care of uncle to support his mother and grandmother. Because of the difficult situation, Y Thuong seems to be more mature in thought than her school age.

The family situation is so difficult, but Y Thuong still keeps trying, she is determined to go to school to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher. Y Thuong's favorite subject is Literature. She shared that she works as a teacher to help children with similar circumstances to go to school. Born and raised in a difficult family, Y Thuong never wanted to give up because she knew that only the way of studying and honing herself could help her and her family escape poverty.
