The dream of reaching the door of the Medical University of an orphan girl

11/08/2021 22:33

Returning to Nghe An this time, "Give an opportunity - Connect a dream" to Dien Thinh commune - one of 8 sea border communes of Dien Chau district, Nghe An, to share with the situation of Pham Thi Ngoc Anh who is studied in grade 7A at Dien Thinh Secondary School.

Born in a family with difficult circumstances, Anh's father had just passed away from cancer, and his mother had to work hard to take care of her and let her four sisters to school. Her mother, Nguyen Thi Xuan, just turned 41 this year, but her struggles seem to make her older than her real age. Her husband died of cancer last year, now, she becomes the main worker to support an elderly mother and 4 school-age children, the youngest is only 3 years old. Because she does not have a degree, Ms. Xuan diligently works as a loader - a job that is inherently only for men, but it is the most suitable choice for her. With each box of bricks weighing 30-50kg of all sizes, on average, she can load 20-30 tons of goods per day. That's the job of selling labor, but Xuan's monthly income is not worth much, only 2 and a half to 3 million VND. As long as she has money to take care of her children's education, she will accept anything, regardless of fatigue.

Anh's mother – Xuan shared

Outside of classroom hours, Ngoc Anh is always conscious of self-studying at home. Her dream is to enter a medical university and become a doctor. But with the current family situation, it is not certain that she will have the conditions to fulfill her dream. Anh's grandmother is more than 70 years old this year, constantly ill, unable to do anything heavy. Every day, she could only hang around the garden, growing some vegetables to save money to buy food. Anh's eldest sister just finished 12th grade this year, but decided to quit school to go to work to help her mother, leaving the opportunity to her younger sister.

Looking at Ngoc Anh's appearance, no one thinks that she is only 13 years old. As a quiet person, rarely see a smile on her face, but somewhere there is always a hint of concern for her mother and siblings. Anh has a somewhat older mindset than her peers. She take advantage of the afternoon time after school to clean the house, wash clothes,.... In the morning, Anh spends some time before going to class to sweep the house for her grandmother. Anh shared that if she finished 12th grade, her mother wish she would continue to study medicine, but if not, she would stay at home and work with her mother.

Out of a total of 38 students studying in class 7A, Ngoc Anh is always on the list of the top 5 students with the best grades in class and the best in grade 7 of the school. Although she study well in all subjects, Literature was chosen as the subject that she love and most passionate about. Recently, Anh won 3rd prize in Literature for the school year 2020-2021. Thanks to her good academic performance and hard work, she have received many positive reviews from both teachers and friends. “The subject of Literature requires a lot of skills to be able to study well, especially to study hard. In addition, it is necessary to search for other information and documents such as social networks and books. Anh also have a sense of self-study at home and hone the knowledge that the teacher has imparted” - Anh's Literature teacher proudly shared.

Knowing the special situation of Pham Thi Ngoc Anh, Vietlott awarded a scholarship worth 25 million for her. Receiving a big gift from the sponsor representative of Vietlott, not only Anh but all teachers and classmates are happy and moved on her behalf. “This is also an honor and joy not only for Anh but also for our school. Hopefully with this gift, she will have more motivation and try harder in learning and training "- a representative of Dien Thinh Secondary School said.
