The wish on the first day of school: "I just wish my father's hand was no longer a stick"

The life of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Xuan (43 years old) can be told in 3 stages. The first time, after the night he had a traffic accident, his left arm suddenly turned into a dry log. The second time, when the children went to school in the morning, he was hospitalized, the wife suddenly left. And the third time is the opening day of the new school year, when the father and son walked hand in hand to school on a familiar road.

Father's two "bad" hands

In 2005, one night on the way home, Mr. Xuan had a traffic accident. That time, he was in the hospital for more than five years, fortunately he survived, but his left arm was forever turned into a dry stick.

Losing the ability to work, Mr. and Mrs. Xuan moved back to An Nhon Tay commune (Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City) to live. In 2018, on the way to sell lottery tickets, he continued to be hit by a motorbike, his remaining arm was also "damaged".

The wife took care of her husband in the hospital for more than a week, looking at the long scar under her arm, she cried forever: "Now both hands are broken, what do you do to support your wife and children? Maybe I have to go." Mr. Xuan never expected that after that idle sentence, his wife would never return.

Since that day, the father and son lived together. Every day before taking his children to school, Mr. Xuan receives 100 lottery tickets to sell. A few times when he saw his father sick, the boy wanted to leave school to work . Every time, Mr. Xuan also stood up to stop: "You have to study later to be talented in order to have money to treat your father's hands", so the boy stopped.

“Two years of going to school, he told me to take the bus quickly. It always shakes its head. He knows that one bus ride is equal to several sales, so he definitely never goes," said Xuan.

The joy of the father and son Xuan is that every day, at 6 am, when Minh has finished changing, he will hold his father's hand and walk to school. The arm has gradually lost feeling, but Xuan can still feel the warm hand of the child intertwined in his palm.

Listening to the hearts of all teachers and students in difficult areas such as An Nhon Tay Primary School, on the morning of September 5, Vietlott organized a visit and awarded 10 scholarships to poor students who overcame poverty. At the same time, Vietlott also organized the awarding of 300 scholarships in many localities across the country.

“We understand that every child has a dream, but because of difficult circumstances, it may not come true. As a business that always listens and accompanies the development of the community, we organized the awarding of the scholarship "Give opportunity - Connect dreams". We hope this scholarship will share some of their difficulties and support them to continue their studies.

This is the time when any parents and students themselves have worries about books, school supplies, new clothes, etc., so when they receive these meaningful gifts, all of them are very happy, excited to go to school” - Mr. Tran Khanh Vu (Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Branch - Vietlott) shared.

“Scholarships are like a drop of cool water to the school, motivating the children to be better, parents also have money to buy new books and clothes. In the future, teachers and students of An Nhon Tay Primary School will continue to strive to overcome difficulties and achieve more academic achievements," added Ms. Thuan.

The first amount of the scholarship Minh received, some of it will buy new clothes, the rest will be to "cure" his father's dry arm. The little boy in the old white shirt, thinking about his plans, he smiled non-stop.
