05/03/2021 22:49

85 years old, blind, but 2 years ago, Mr. Tu Cong Can (Cay Duong town, Hau Giang province) still meticulously sold each lottery ticket to support his wife who had a polio accident. The dream of both is to have a decent house before they die.

For 20 years now, people in Cay Duong town (Hau Giang) are still familiar with the image of an old couple, holding hands every day to sell lottery tickets by the roadside to earn a living. That is the love of Mr. Tu Cong Can (85 years old) and Ms. Tran Thi Pha (75 years old).

At the age of 18, during a run from Binh Dinh to Hau Giang, Mr. Can fell in love with a country girl. At that time, married, both were poor, the dowry was only enough to buy a boat for the couple to buy baskets to sell on the river.

After having children together, Mr. Can discussed with his wife to move ashore for the children to go to school . However, the amount of money accumulated for many years was not enough to buy bricks. Mr. Can had to change poles, reeds, etc. to roof the house. But in the rainy season, the house also goes up with the water, when it rains, the whole family is covered in rubber sheets, it's like being outdoors… Every time she looks at her child, Mrs. Pha sheds tears.

2 years ago, it was the turn of Mr. Can's eyes to dim and then to go blind. Can no longer see the way, Mr. Can retired to the house, only knowing how to rely on the friendship of neighbors and children. The house has collapsed over the years, the truss column is tilted only the head of the couple is older than the palm of their hand. Every night when the wind is strong, Mr. Can wakes up, covers his wife with blankets. The youngest son loved his parents, went to the village to ask for some wood, and inserted it into the places where the pillars were broken. But no one knows when the house will collapse.

2 years ago, trying hard to practice, Mrs. Pha was able to talk a little. However, the dream of having a decent house until her death, she did not know how to look directly into her husband's eyes to speak.

Listening to the tragic situation of Mr. Tu Cong Can's family when both the elderly couple was sick, one had a stroke, the other was blind and had just had one eye surgery, still clinging to the unknown house day by day. When the event collapsed, Vietlott and the  Cay Duong town presented a house to her and her husband.
